The variability is biological: ovulation can shift by a few days, implantation can vary, and the actual birth has a 4-6 week distribution around the due date even for healthy term pregnancies.

What's the best month to be born for school?

Depends on jurisdiction. US public schools generally use a Sept 1 (or Aug/Oct) cutoff, so August-September babies are the youngest in their class and June-July babies are the oldest. Some research links being older for grade with academic and athletic advantages, but effects are small and often fade. UK uses Sept 1 too; Australia uses varied cutoffs by state.

Can I plan to avoid being pregnant in summer?

Yes — if you want a winter pregnancy and spring birth, target conception in mid-summer (e.g. July) for an April birth. How birth-planning math works

Pregnancy lasts approximately 280 days (40 weeks) from the first day of your last menstrual period, or 266 days (38 weeks) from actual conception. To work backward from a target due date:

Conception date = Target due date − 266 days
LMP date = Target due date − 280 days
Fertile window = 5 days before conception through 1 day after (sperm survives ~5 days; egg ~24 hours)

This is the inverse of the standard due-date calculation, useful when you're trying to plan around a season, school start date, work cycle, or family event.

You can plan your conception window — but timing of birth has natural variability. Only about 5% of babies are born on their exact due date; most arrive within 2 weeks before or after. So if you target a December birth, expect the actual birth could fall anywhere from mid-November to early January.
